The Nigerian Railway Corporation and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have foiled an alleged attempt to vandalise railway infrastructure at a siding serving the Dangote Steel Rolling Mills in Osogbo, Osun State.
The suspected vandals reportedly fled after security operatives arrived at the location following a report of ongoing vandalism of railway track materials.
A search of the area led to the recovery of nine oxygen gas cylinders allegedly brought to the site for the operation.
The NRC said security personnel, including officers of the NSCDC Railway Command, secured the affected railway materials and surrounding area.

NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, commended the security personnel for their swift response and urged security formations across the railway network to strengthen surveillance against vandalism and theft.
He described railway infrastructure as critical national assets and called on communities living near railway corridors to promptly report suspicious activities.
Opeifa also directed security operatives to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the attempted vandalism.
