The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as John Mahmud, for allegedly assaulting his biological mother in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area of the state.
Mahmud, a resident of Konan Kuka, was taken into custody after the police received a complaint alleging that he attacked his mother at their residence.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had behaved violently towards his mother.
Nguroje disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday evening, noting that the Commissioner of Police had ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

He said the suspect would be prosecuted after the conclusion of the investigation.
The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s position against domestic violence, stressing that the authorities would continue to take steps to protect vulnerable members of society, particularly women and elderly persons.
The command also appealed to residents to promptly report cases of domestic abuse to the nearest police station to enable security agencies to intervene.
The arrest comes amid continued concerns over domestic violence and the need for families and communities to report abusive behaviour before it escalates.
