The Ogun State Police Command has recovered a submachine gun and 75 rounds of live ammunition concealed inside a damaged wardrobe in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.
The weapon was discovered on August 5, 2026, while a rented apartment previously occupied by a deceased landlord was being cleared.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, operatives of the Sakura Division responded to the report, secured the apartment and recovered one English Submachine Gun (SMG) along with 75 rounds of ammunition.
The police said the recovered items have been secured and will undergo ballistic examination at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, as investigations continue to determine how the firearm and ammunition were concealed in the apartment.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Idi Oke Division arrested 12 suspected cultists during a raid in the Igbesa area of Ogun State.
The suspects were allegedly linked to reports of cult activities, harassment and extortion at a hotel in the area.
Police said assorted charms, battle axes, knives, cult-related paraphernalia, eight motorcycles, a black Lexus vehicle and an unregistered red Toyota Camry were recovered during the operation.
The command added that some suspects fled the scene, with efforts ongoing to apprehend them.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Sagamu Division also recovered an abandoned red Bajaj motorcycle near a mechanic workshop at Trailer Park, Kara, Sabo Sagamu.
The motorcycle has been taken into police custody as investigations continue to identify its owner and establish the circumstances surrounding its abandonment.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive patrols and rapid response to criminal activities.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police to help prevent crime and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
