The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old suspect in connection with the theft of roofing materials valued at ₦2.26 million in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the arrest followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation combined with routine patrol activities.
The incident was initially reported by a shop owner in Gandunwambai, Azare, who discovered that unidentified individuals had broken into his shop along Kano Road using a master key and made away with 460 metres of Stonecut roofing sheets.
Upon receiving the report, detectives from the Azare Police Division swiftly moved to the scene. Acting on credible intelligence, the officers tracked and intercepted the stolen materials along the Azare–Jama’are Road.
During the operation, one suspect identified as Muktari Rufa’i, aged 35, was apprehended, while the stolen roofing sheets were successfully recovered. The police confirmed that the recovered items were valued at ₦2,260,000.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime and implicated an accomplice, identified as Evra Pizo, who is currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the fleeing suspect.
The arrested individual remains in custody at the Azare Police Division and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers involved in the operation for their prompt response and professionalism.
He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.
