The Ekiti State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime, with the arrest of a suspected motorcycle thief and two alleged receivers of stolen property, alongside the recovery of seven stolen motorcycles.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), took place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in Ado-Ekiti.
According to a statement released by the police, the breakthrough followed credible intelligence received at about 2:00 p.m. regarding a suspect who had allegedly stolen a red Bajaj motorcycle near Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar School and was attempting to escape along Ilawe Road.
Acting swiftly, VCRU operatives on stop-and-search duty intercepted the suspect after a brief chase. The individual, identified as 38-year-old Mustapha Lekan from Osun State, was apprehended, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered from him.
During interrogation, Lekan reportedly confessed to stealing two motorcycles within Ado-Ekiti.
Further investigations led police detectives to Ilogbo-Ekiti and Ido-Ekiti, where two suspected receivers of stolen property—Adebiyi Blessing and Ogunbayo Adebiyi—were arrested.

Subsequent operations resulted in the recovery of six additional motorcycles believed to have been stolen, bringing the total number of recovered bikes to seven.
The Police Command stated that investigations are ongoing to identify the rightful owners of the recovered motorcycles and to track down other members of the criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, commended the VCRU operatives for their prompt response, professionalism, and dedication to duty.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
The Commissioner also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist security agencies in combating crime.
All suspects, he added, will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
