The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Isiyaku Usman, over the alleged defilement of a seven-year-old girl and theft of two mobile phones in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
Usman, a resident of Kari village in Darazo, was arrested after the victim’s 37-year-old father reported the incident to the police on Sunday.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 8am on Sunday while the girl was reportedly on her way to a neighbouring house with two Tecno A31 mobile phones.
The suspect allegedly lured the child into an uncompleted building, where he reportedly took the phones from her and sexually assaulted her.
Following the complaint, police detectives launched an investigation and arrested Usman, who was allegedly found in possession of the stolen phones.

The police said the suspect allegedly confessed to the offences during questioning.
The victim and the suspect were subsequently taken to Darazo General Hospital for medical examination, while their statements were also recorded as part of the investigation.
The State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the Gender Laboratory of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.
The police said the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
The command condemned the alleged offence and reaffirmed its commitment to combating sexual and gender-based violence. It also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and movements of their children.
