The Oyo State Government has firmly denied claims that it paid ransom to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In an official statement released on Friday, the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, dismissed the allegation, stating that it was a deliberate attempt by unverified sources to misinform the public and create unnecessary panic.
According to the government, no ransom has been paid—either directly or indirectly—to the bandits responsible for the abduction.
The statement emphasized that both the state and federal governments are actively collaborating with security agencies to ensure the safe and unconditional release of the victims.
The commissioner urged the public to disregard unverified reports circulating on social media and rely only on information from official government channels.
