Former Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp, has taken a swipe at Arsenal following Germany’s controversial elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Germany crashed out of the tournament after a dramatic Round of 32 clash against Paraguay, which ended 1-1 in regulation time before the South American side triumphed in a penalty shootout in Boston.
Paraguay took the lead through Julio Enciso just before halftime, while Kai Havertz restored parity for Germany in the 54th minute. Despite dominating spells of the game, Germany struggled to create clear-cut chances against a resilient Paraguayan defense.
The turning point came in extra time when Jonathan Tah appeared to have scored the winning goal with a header.
However, following a VAR review, the referee ruled out the goal, citing a foul by Waldemar Anton on Paraguay’s goalkeeper, Orlando Gill.

The decision sparked controversy, with many arguing that the contact was minimal and that the goalkeeper went down too easily in a crowded penalty area.
Reacting to the incident, Klopp expressed his frustration and drew a comparison with Arsenal’s style of play during their Premier League title-winning 2025/2026 season.
Speaking to Magenta TV, Klopp said: “If that goal is illegal, then Arsenal wouldn’t be champions.
They’ve scored about 60 percent of their goals in similar situations. When the ball goes in, you expect it to count — this is brutal.”
Germany’s exit marks one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, while Paraguay advances to the next round in what continues to be a surprising World Cup campaign.
