Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a teacher and abducting an unspecified number of students who were writing the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination.
The attack occurred on Monday morning while the examination was in progress. Another teacher was reportedly injured during the invasion.
Residents said the attackers stormed the community shortly after military personnel stationed in the area had left for a patrol in nearby Uba, about 16 kilometres away.

“The soldiers were not around when the terrorists invaded. They came in large numbers, firing sporadically and causing panic everywhere. They took away students writing NECO and their teachers,” a resident said.
The spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident, stating that several students remain missing as security agencies continue efforts to rescue the victims and restore calm in the area.
