
The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing fight against violent crime with the arrest of a suspected armed robber and the recovery of multiple firearms and ammunition.
The suspect, identified as Austine Emenike, popularly known as “Oyibo,” was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation carried out in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Blessing Agabe, the operation was executed following credible intelligence and in line with the directives of the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju.
Agabe disclosed that items recovered from the suspect include one locally made pistol, four single-barrel guns, and five live cartridges.
She further revealed that preliminary investigations have linked the suspect to a wider criminal network, adding that efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend other members of the gang.

“The Rivers State Police Command has recorded another major operational success in its relentless campaign against violent crime,” the statement read.
“Investigators are actively pursuing vital leads to uncover the full scope of the network’s activities.”
Commending the operatives involved in the operation, Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
“This arrest and recovery underscore our resolve to proactively tackle violent crime and protect law-abiding citizens.
We will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations until criminal elements are completely rooted out,” he stated.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that public cooperation remains crucial in enhancing security across Rivers State.
