Armed terrorists suspected to be bandits have reportedly killed at least seven residents in the Matazu/Musawa axis of Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, despite ongoing security restrictions imposed by the state government to curb criminal activities.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday, has heightened concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting several communities across the state. Local sources said the victims were buried according to Islamic rites shortly after the incident.
The killings come despite measures introduced by the government, including a ban on motorcycle movement, restrictions on telecommunications services, and a prohibition on the sale of petrol in jerrycans in parts of the affected areas.
The restrictions were intended to disrupt the operations of armed groups, but residents say the attackers continue to move freely and launch deadly assaults.

Community members expressed frustration that the security measures have not prevented recurring attacks, with many villages still living under the constant threat of violence.
The latest incident adds to a growing list of security challenges in Katsina State, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted rural communities, forcing many residents to flee their homes.
In a separate but related case, a displaced farmer from Batagarawa Local Government Area recounted surviving a brutal attack in which suspected bandits allegedly tied him up, poured petrol on him, and set him ablaze while he was working on his farm. The victim said he survived after rolling repeatedly on the ground to extinguish the flames before a passerby rescued him and took him to a hospital for treatment.
The recent attacks have renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect residents and restore safety in vulnerable communities across Katsina State.
