
Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have successfully rescued three kidnapped women and thwarted a planned terrorist attack during coordinated operations in Zamfara and Sokoto States.
The operation, part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and strengthen security across Nigeria’s North West region, also led to the recovery of a high-calibre weapon, ammunition, motorcycles, and other military items.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the breakthrough was achieved through sustained offensive patrols and intelligence-driven missions.
On June 22, 2026, troops conducting routine patrols in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, rescued three female victims who had been held captive for approximately three months.
The victims were reportedly abandoned by their captors due to mounting military pressure.
The rescued individuals were identified as 28-year-old Zainab Muhammadu from Gara Zaima Village in Bukkuyum LGA of Zamfara State, alongside Hafsat Ibrahim (20) and Halira Usman (17), both from Mashiga/Taka Lafiya Village in Zuru LGA of Kebbi State.

They were immediately evacuated for medical evaluation and are currently receiving appropriate care.
In a separate operation on June 23, troops of the 8 Division Garrison, acting on credible intelligence, launched an ambush at Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State.
The troops intercepted terrorists reportedly en route to carry out attacks.
Upon encountering the troops, the terrorists came under heavy fire, forcing them to flee and abandon their mission.
Items recovered at the scene included a PKT machine gun, a cache of ammunition, two motorcycles, and chains believed to have been used to restrain captives.
The military described the operations as a testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-led strategies and the relentless commitment of troops to restoring peace and security in the region.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its resolve to sustain pressure on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements, emphasizing its dedication to protecting lives and property until normalcy is fully restored across the North West.
