
A Lagos-based man, identified as Emeka Joseph, has been remanded in prison following allegations of domestic violence against his 18-year-old partner, Ezeka Chisom.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrest and arraignment of the suspect after a viral video surfaced online showing the young woman with visible facial injuries, sparking widespread public outrage.
In an official statement released via its X (formerly Twitter) handle, the police disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the victim sustained injuries during an alleged assault by the suspect, with whom she had been cohabiting.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a case of assault occasioning harm and domestic violence following a viral video report,” the statement read.
“The victim was assaulted by the suspect and sustained injuries to her face.”

Joseph has since been charged to court and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending further legal proceedings. The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026.
Reports indicate that the victim, originally from Ebonyi State, was brought to Lagos by the suspect after he allegedly married her. Sources claim she had endured repeated abuse, with injuries reportedly visible on multiple parts of her body.
Residents in the area were said to have confronted the suspect over the alleged maltreatment, but he reportedly dismissed their concerns and warned them to stay out of his personal affairs.
The situation gained national attention after images and videos of the victim circulated on social media, prompting calls from the public and human rights advocates for swift intervention.
Authorities have assured that investigations will continue as the case proceeds in court.
