The Kwara State Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Bayo Fabiyi, alongside two associates, has reportedly been abducted during a ransom delivery mission in Oko-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to sources, the incident occurred on Sunday when Fabiyi and his team set out to secure the release of a kidnapped victim.
The abductors had allegedly demanded a ransom of ₦30 million, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice.
Acting on these instructions, the trio proceeded to a designated forest location along the Kwara-Kogi boundary to complete the exchange.
However, the situation took a tragic turn when the ransom bearers were ambushed upon arrival. Instead of releasing the victim, the suspected kidnappers reportedly seized Fabiyi, his driver, and another associate. Since the incident, their whereabouts remain unknown.
Disturbingly, unconfirmed reports suggest that the victim they intended to rescue may have already been killed before the ransom team embarked on the mission, raising concerns over the tactics employed by the abductors.

Sources also revealed that the incident was not immediately reported to security agencies, contributing to delays in official response.
When contacted, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police stated that the command had not received any formal report regarding the abduction but assured that necessary action would be taken once the case is officially reported.
The development has heightened fears among residents, especially given Fabiyi’s recent warnings about worsening insecurity in Kwara South.
Just weeks before the incident, the OPC leader had called for stronger collaboration between local security outfits and formal law enforcement agencies to combat rising cases of kidnapping and violent crimes in rural communities.
Authorities are yet to provide further updates as investigations are expected to commence following formal reporting of the incident.
