
The Abia State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of vandalising and stealing government property along the Umuahia–Uzuakoli Road in the state.
The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Ogonna, 23, and Ifeanychukwu Oko, 25, were reportedly apprehended during a police stop-and-search operation following intelligence on the movement of stolen public infrastructure materials.
According to the police, operatives of the Mike Okiro Divisional Headquarters intercepted the suspects while they were transporting suspected stolen items in a commercial tricycle.
Recovered items include 49 pieces of angle irons, two saws, three spanners, three iron boards, and 86 electrical poles allegedly removed from government facilities.
The police said the suspects confessed to their involvement during preliminary interrogation, adding that the exhibits have been secured for investigation.
