
Operatives of the Abia State Police Command have arrested two suspects for allegedly possessing an illegal firearm and ammunition in Aba.
The suspects, identified as David Emmanuel, 33, and Joel Emeka, 25, were apprehended during a stop-and-search operation conducted by officers attached to the Nediegoro Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the arrest took place on June 12, 2026, along Azikiwe Road by Kent Road in Aba. She disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa.
Chinaka said police operatives intercepted an auto rickshaw conveying the suspects during the operation. While one occupant reportedly fled the scene, the two suspects were immediately arrested.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, one live round of ammunition, live cartridges, a small black bag, and the tricycle used for transportation.
The recovered items have been taken into custody as exhibits, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing. They will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” Chinaka stated.The Abia State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
The command also urged members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information that could aid crime prevention and detection.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the police to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and tackle criminal activities across Abia State. Security agencies have intensified stop-and-search operations and intelligence-led raids in major cities, including Aba and Umuahia, to strengthen public safety.
