
The traditional ruler of Anunu Ukwu Ancient Kingdom in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, Eze Paulson Nwankwo, has called for peace and restraint following the tragic death of a final-year student nurse, Miss Wendy Achumba.
The deceased was reportedly found dead at her lodge in Umudara Village, Umulogho Community, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, shortly after completing her midwifery programme at the College of Nursing, Umulogho Obowo.
Reacting to the incident, Eze Nwankwo appealed to youths in the community to resist any form of retaliation, warning that acts of revenge could escalate tensions and lead to further violence.
“Reprisal actions will only worsen the situation. I urge everyone to remain calm and allow security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation,” the monarch stated.
He further called on community leaders and residents in the area where the incident occurred to cooperate fully with law enforcement by providing credible information that could aid in the arrest of other suspects linked to the crime.
The monarch also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Command confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the case and are currently in custody.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, officers responded promptly after receiving the report.
Initial arrests included the lodge caretaker and the victim’s boyfriend, but both individuals were later cleared after investigations revealed they were not involved.
Further developments led to the arrest of another suspect who allegedly implicated an accomplice during interrogation.
Police authorities disclosed that forensic experts have recovered a blood-stained knife and other critical exhibits from the scene, which are currently undergoing analysis.
The Commissioner of Police in Imo State has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter, assuring the public that the outcome will be made known once the process is concluded.
The incident has sparked widespread concern, with calls for justice and improved security for students across the region.
