The Kogi State Police Command has dismissed reports of a kidnapping along the Kabba-Okene Road, describing them as false and misleading.
Police spokesperson Oyiza Salisu said on Friday that no passengers were abducted on June 17. The incident involved a commercial bus carrying cocoyam, not people.
According to Salisu, the driver, identified as Ojo from Kabba, was heading to Ibilo around 9 p.m. when he noticed unusual lights ahead. Fearing danger, he made a U-turn and ran to a nearby military checkpoint after seeing people approach the vehicle.
“It is important to state clearly that no passenger was kidnapped or harmed, as there were no passengers on board at the time,” Salisu said.

Preliminary findings showed the bus had developed an electrical fault. The goods were later transferred to another vehicle and delivered without further incident.
The matter was resolved at the military checkpoint and was not formally reported to the police since there was no crime or casualty.
Salisu urged the public to disregard claims of an armed bandit attack and abduction on the route, calling them inaccurate and capable of causing unnecessary panic.
