The Ilorin Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has conferred an Award of Excellence on the President of NSE, Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR in recognition of his exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to the advancement of the engineering profession.
The award was presented during the 4th Distinguished Annual Lecture in honour of Engr. Lanre Yusuf Shagaya, FNSE, FAEng, MFR, OFR, held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Ilorin. The President was represented at the event by Past President, Engr. Babagana Mohammed, FNSE who received the award on his behalf.
According to the citation, the award was bestowed in recognition of Engr. Rabiu’s exemplary leadership, distinguished service to the Society and commitment to advancing the objectives and ideals of the Society.
In his goodwill message delivered at the event which coincided with Engr. Shagaya’s 80th birthday celebrations, the President commended the NSE Ilorin Branch for the successful organisation of the annual lecture series, describing it as a valuable platform for intellectual engagement, professional reflection and the celebration of excellence within the engineering community. He noted that the programme also serves as a fitting tribute to an iconic Engineer, administrator and statesman whose contributions to the engineering profession and national development remain profound and enduring.

The President further paid glowing tribute to Engr.
