
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cult members and recovered a firearm along with live ammunition in a sustained effort to curb cult-related violence and criminal activities across the state.
The suspects, identified as Oparemi Kabiru, popularly known as “Ikebe,” and Fasasi Taofeek, alias “Bufalo,” were apprehended by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Oyo Base, during an intelligence-driven operation in the Oke-Apo area of Oyo town.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the arrest was carried out on June 17 following credible intelligence linking the suspects to activities threatening public peace and security in Oyo town and surrounding communities.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol and two live cartridges.
Preliminary investigations further revealed that the duo are alleged members of a notorious cult group and have reportedly been involved in several violent criminal operations within the area.
The Police Command described the operation as a significant breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on cultism and related crimes, emphasizing the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and community collaboration.

The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning that criminal elements would not be allowed to operate freely within the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information.
Ayodeji also reiterated the importance of the “See Something, Say Something” approach, noting that proactive reporting of suspicious activities is critical to crime prevention and effective policing.
He assured the public that all information shared with the police would be treated with strict confidentiality and professionalism, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network.
The Command reiterated its resolve to rid Oyo State of cultism, armed violence, and other forms of criminality, while maintaining the relative peace currently enjoyed across the state.
