The Kogi State Police Command has dismissed viral reports alleging that passengers were kidnapped along the Kabba-Okene Road, insisting that no such incident occurred. In a statement, the command described the claims as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard the reports.
According to the police, the incident happened on the night of June 17 when a commercial bus transporting cocoyam from Kabba to Ibilo encountered a situation that sparked concern.
The driver reportedly noticed unusual lights ahead on the road, attempted to make a U-turn, and abandoned the vehicle before running to a nearby military checkpoint for safety.

Police spokesperson Oyiza Salisu explained that there were no passengers on board the vehicle at the time and that no one was abducted or harmed.
She added that preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle had developed an electrical fault, which contributed to the misunderstanding surrounding the incident.
The police further stated that the goods were later transferred to another vehicle and delivered safely to their destination. Authorities clarified that the matter was handled at the military checkpoint and was not reported as a criminal case because no kidnapping or casualty occurred.
The command reiterated that reports claiming an armed bandit attack and abduction of passengers on the route are inaccurate and unsupported by available facts.
