Nollywood Stars Gather in Abia as Alexx Ekubo Laid to Rest -

Family, friends, and colleagues from the Nigerian film industry gathered in Arochukwu, Abia State, on Thursday to bury Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo. The 40-year-old screen star died on May 11, 2026, after battling metastatic kidney cancer.

Ahead of the interment at the family house, a funeral service and reception were held at Mary Slessor School Field in Amanagwu Village. Videos from the service showed the emotional moment Ekubo’s casket was brought in, drawing tears from relatives and industry colleagues who traveled to the Southeast to pay their last respects.

The burial drew prominent figures from entertainment and business, including IK Ogbonna, Mike Godson, AY Makun, Ini Edo, Nancy Isime, Bimbo Ademoye, and businessman Obi Cubana. Following the open-air service, the procession returned to the family house, where the actor was interred in line with the family’s announcement.

Funeral arrangements began on June 10 in Lagos with a service of songs, where tributes poured in from family, friends, and colleagues. A wake-keep was held on June 17 at the family house on Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa Ujari Village, where Ekubo was laid to rest.
