One person died and 13 others were injured on Sunday afternoon after a white Mazda bus somersaulted at Eruku Bridge along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State. The lone crash, which occurred around 12:00 p.m., involved 16 people in total, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.
FRSC Ogun Sector Command spokesperson Afolabi Odunsi confirmed that the bus, with registration number MUS 543XZ, veered off the road after a tyre burst while the driver was speeding.
“One adult female lost her life, while 13 others, including two adult males and 11 adult females, sustained injuries. Two female children escaped unhurt,” he said.
The injured victims were rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Ifo for treatment, and the body was deposited in the morgue. Rescue teams arrived within five minutes of the distress call and recovered jewellery and bags from the scene.

Videos shared online showed sympathisers trying to free passengers from the wreckage as the bus lay on its side. A female victim was seen lying motionless on the road with bloodstains around her. Odunsi blamed the crash on “speed violation and tyre burst” and urged motorists to inspect tyres regularly and avoid excessive speed, especially on highways.
The incident comes barely a month after another fatal crash at the same Eruku Bridge. On May 11, a gold Toyota vehicle plunged off the bridge at night, killing all 11 occupants. FRSC officials say repeated crashes at the spot highlight the dangers of speeding and poor vehicle maintenance on the Lagos-Abeokuta corridor.
