The Kano State Fire Service rescued three people, including an 18-month-old child, from two separate well accidents in Kumbotso and Warawa Local Government Areas on Friday.
The incidents occurred between 7:06 a.m. and 9:40 a.m., according to a statement from the service’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
In Kumbotso, emergency responders received a distress call from the Semegu area near El-Sadeeq Bread. On arrival, they found an unidentified man, about 40 years old, who had fallen into a well. He was pulled out unconscious and handed over to the Divisional Crime Officer of the Panshekara Police Division, Salisu Salihu, for further investigation.
A second rescue took place in Madarin Taba Village, Warawa LGA. A 32-year-old woman, Maimuna Shitu, who was reportedly suffering from mental illness, and her 18-month-old son, Harisu Muntari, both fell into a well.

Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to cover wells properly and take safety precautions to prevent similar tragedies. He also called on parents and guardians to closely monitor children and vulnerable persons.
Well accidents remain common in parts of northern Nigeria, where uncovered or poorly secured wells in residential areas have led to repeated injuries and fatalities.
