
Operatives of the Ugbowo Division of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two suspected cultists allegedly preparing for unlawful activities in Benin City.
The suspects, Victor Peter, 21, and Iyemoma Ogbewe, 35, were apprehended in Ohonre Community, off Adolor College Road, on May 21 at about 7 p.m.
According to ASP Eno Ikoedem, the command’s Public Relations Officer, the arrest followed a distress report about the movement and gathering of suspected cult members in the area.

Acting on the information, officers on surveillance patrol mobilised to the location. On sighting the police, the suspects fled but were caught after a hot chase. Both later confessed to being members of the Maphite cult group.
During a search, police recovered one cut-to-size gun allegedly in their possession for unlawful purposes.
Ikoedem said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
