The Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, has dismantled a criminal syndicate involved in motorcycle theft across Lagos and Ogun states, arresting three suspects during a coordinated raid.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, said operatives also recovered five suspected stolen motorcycles in the operation. The breakthrough followed months of investigation into a gang known for stealing bikes in Sagamu and Ijebu Ode areas of Ogun State.
According to Jimoh, the operation began after a formal petition was submitted to the zonal headquarters on April 12. Investigations revealed the gang stole motorcycles in Sagamu and Ijebu Ode before selling them to buyers in Ogere, Ojodu Berger, Mushin, and other parts of the country.
Operatives of the Zone 2 Dragon Team tracked the syndicate through surveillance and intelligence gathering. An ambush was laid around the Sagamu Interchange on May 19, leading to the arrest of three suspects aged 26, 29, and 48.

Preliminary findings showed the group, along with two other suspects still at large, specialised in stealing motorcycles between 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.
The gang reportedly towed parked bikes, forced the steering locks, and manipulated electrical wires to start the engines. Stolen motorcycles were then handed over to receivers near the Sagamu Interchange for resale.
Items recovered included three unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycles, one unregistered Daylong motorcycle, and one unregistered Lifan motorcycle. Police said the syndicate had allegedly stolen and sold about 50 motorcycles across Sagamu and Ijebu Ode.
Jimoh directed operatives to intensify efforts to arrest the remaining suspects and ensure diligent prosecution after investigations are concluded.
