A United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Kayode Ogunbodede, popularly known as “Kay,” has reportedly died after passing away in his sleep in Swansea, Wales.
According to information gathered on Wednesday, Ogunbodede died in the early hours of Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
His sudden death has left his family and the Nigerian community in the UK in deep shock and mourning.
He is survived by his wife, who is currently a student, and their two young daughters aged six years and six months.
A GoFundMe appeal initiated by Olatunde Owoeye-Phoster described the incident as both sudden and devastating.
The statement highlighted that Ogunbodede was widely known within the Nigerian and African communities in the UK and was an active member of Elim City Church in Swansea as well as the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
He was remembered as a calm, peaceful, and supportive individual who was always willing to help others and carried a warm, positive presence.

“Our lives changed in ways we cannot imagine when our brother, husband and father, Kayode Ogunbodede, passed away suddenly in his sleep,” the statement read. “Kay was full of life, supportive, and always ready to lend a helping hand.”
The fundraising campaign was launched to support his bereaved family with funeral expenses, childcare, household bills, and the continued education of his wife and children.
Describing the family’s situation, the appeal noted that his wife, now a relatively new mother, is currently not working, making the loss even more difficult to bear.
As of the time of this report, £480 had been raised out of the £18,000 target.
Ogunbodede’s death adds to a growing number of recent cases involving Nigerians in the UK who have died unexpectedly, with families often relying on public donations to manage funeral arrangements and provide support for those left behind.
In recent months, similar incidents have been reported, including the death of another Nigerian father of three in Thornaby and a separate case involving a Nigerian man found unresponsive at his workplace.
These recurring tragedies continue to raise concerns within diaspora communities, as families navigate sudden losses far from home.
