Tragedy struck in Osun State as two undergraduates lost their lives following a suspected cult-related attack in the Ede area.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, has been linked to an ongoing rivalry between cult groups within the community.
According to sources, a group of about six students were attacked in their off-campus residence by armed assailants believed to be cult members on a revenge mission.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the attackers forcefully gained entry into the apartment and unleashed violence using dangerous weapons, leaving several victims critically injured.
While some of the injured students are currently receiving treatment in hospital, two of them reportedly succumbed to their injuries.

An anti-cultism platform, Naija Confra, alleged that the attack targeted members of a rival confraternity, claiming that a key member known as “Dara” was tracked to the residence before the assault was carried out.
The platform further stated that high-ranking members of the group were present during the attack, resulting in severe casualties.
However, the Osun State Police Command has confirmed the incident with a slightly different casualty figure.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, stated that only one death has been officially recorded so far, adding that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full details surrounding the clash.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the persistent threat of cult-related violence in Nigerian tertiary institutions, particularly in off-campus student communities.
Authorities have urged residents and students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, as security agencies intensify efforts to restore peace and prevent further violence.
