
Several people have been confirmed dead following a tragic collision between a train and a school minibus in northern Belgium on Tuesday morning.
The fatal accident occurred at a railway crossing in the village of Buggenhout, located about 20 kilometres from Brussels.
Reports indicate that the minibus, which was carrying seven children, a supervisor, and a driver, was struck by an oncoming train at approximately 8:08 a.m.
Authorities described the impact as extremely severe, leaving the vehicle badly damaged.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, where images showed the minibus overturned beside the railway tracks, with rescue tents set up as efforts continued.

While officials have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties, sources suggest that there were multiple fatalities among those onboard the bus.
Belgian police have remained cautious, declining to release full details pending further investigation.
A spokesperson for emergency services noted that the train involved was scheduled to stop at a nearby station just a kilometre away before the crash occurred.
Belgium’s Interior Minister, Bernard Quintin, expressed his condolences, extending sympathies to the victims and their families while wishing the injured strength and recovery.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the collision.
