Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has named Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres as the Premier League signing of the season, saying the Swede was a key factor in the Gunners’ title win.
Speaking on his BBC podcast after the 2025-26 campaign ended, Rooney said Gyokeres gave Arsenal exactly what they had been missing. He argued that the forward’s impact made the difference in a season where Mikel Arteta’s side finally ended their wait for the Premier League trophy.
“I think Viktor Gyokeres,” Rooney said when asked for his signing of the season. “Granit Xhaka has been brilliant for Sunderland, but look at what Gyokeres has brought to Arsenal; it’s exactly what they have needed.”

Rooney added that after finishing second for three years in a row, Arsenal needed a different attacking edge. According to him, Gyokeres provided that and played a big role in pushing the club over the line.
Arsenal signed the Sweden international from Sporting CP last summer. His goals and physical presence up front helped transform the Gunners’ attack and contributed heavily to their title-winning campaign.
