Joint security forces have commenced coordinated patrol operations across forest corridors and border communities in Kwara South as part of a renewed effort to combat rising insecurity in the region.
The initiative, tagged Keep Kwara South Safe Project, officially began on Sunday and is designed to enhance surveillance, strengthen intelligence gathering, and improve rapid response in vulnerable areas prone to criminal activities such as kidnapping and armed attacks.
Security personnel drawn from multiple agencies were deployed to strategic locations across the district, marking what authorities described as a sustained and proactive security presence aimed at restoring public confidence.
Speaking on the development, the Coordinator of the Joint Security Watch Kwara South, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, emphasized that the operation is preventive rather than reactive.
“This is a proactive, intelligence-driven exercise to safeguard lives and property.
We urge residents to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and cooperate fully with security operatives,” he stated.
According to him, patrol teams will maintain continuous monitoring of forests and remote border settlements identified as high-risk zones for criminal infiltration.

He also commended traditional rulers and community leaders for their strong support, noting that grassroots collaboration is critical to the success of the operation.
“Our royal fathers and community stakeholders have played a vital role in maintaining stability. Their support strengthens every effort to secure the region,” he added.
In a move to integrate technology into security operations, the project will feature a public drone surveillance demonstration scheduled for Tuesday at the Area Command in Ajasepo, along the Ajasepo–Offa Road.
The demonstration, expected to attract community leaders, youths, and residents, will showcase how drone technology can aid security agencies in monitoring difficult terrains and responding swiftly to threats.
The initiative comes in the wake of growing security concerns in Kwara South, including a recent attack on worshippers in Ekiti Local Government Area, where three people were killed and several others abducted during a vigil.
Officials say the Keep Kwara South Safe Project is a community-based intervention aimed at reducing security risks, improving intelligence sharing, and rebuilding trust between residents and security agencies.
