The Nigerian Army has raised concerns over the increasing activities of fraudsters impersonating senior military officers on social media platforms in a bid to scam unsuspecting Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Sunday through its official X handle, the Army disclosed that fake Facebook accounts had been created using the identity of the Deputy Chief of Standards and Evaluation (Army), Major General Raymond Utsaha, alongside the photograph of the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi.
The Army explained that the fraudulent accounts were designed to deceive members of the public through false representations and unauthorized online engagements.

According to the statement, the fake accounts do not belong to the senior officers, warning Nigerians to ignore any messages, friend requests, financial solicitations, or unofficial interactions linked to the profiles.
The military authorities further emphasized that senior Army officers do not conduct official transactions, award contracts, seek financial support, or handle sensitive matters through personal social media accounts.
The Nigerian Army urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious accounts or activities to relevant security agencies for necessary action.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring cyber-related activities and taking decisive measures against individuals or groups involved in impersonation and online fraud.
