Residents of the Kuntun Bokun area in the Paze axis of Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of Abuja, have been thrown into panic following a late-night kidnapping incident carried out by armed gunmen.
The attack, which reportedly occurred on May 15, saw the assailants storm the community around 11:40 p.m., firing multiple gunshots into the air to instill fear among residents before executing their operation.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the gunmen, who were speaking Hausa, threatened to shoot anyone found outside during the invasion.
Many residents initially mistook the gunfire for routine activity by local vigilante groups who patrol the area at night.
One resident recounted the confusion, stating that he initially believed the gunshots were from vigilantes and even sent messages complaining about the noise, only to later realize it was an actual attack after hearing cries for help.

During the incident, the attackers abducted a man while another young resident sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Sources within the community disclosed that the kidnappers operated on foot, without the use of motorcycles or vehicles, heightening concerns about security vulnerabilities in the area.
The latest attack has further intensified fear among residents, especially as it follows a similar kidnapping case reported in the Paze axis earlier in March.
In response, there has been a noticeable increase in security patrols in nearby areas such as Byazhin and surrounding communities.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Josephine Adeh, had not responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
