
The Speaker of the Gwagwalada Area Council legislative arm, Mohammed Ibrahim Ibwa, and his aide, Ibrahim Ibwa, have died following a fatal crash along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
The accident occurred around 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday at Sheda village, involving a head-on collision between a Mercedes-Benz car and a Sino truck. The Speaker’s aide died instantly at the scene.
Speaker Ibwa was first taken to Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada for treatment before being referred to the Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he died in the early hours of Thursday. A third occupant of the Mercedes-Benz is receiving medical attention.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, who participated in the rescue operation, confirmed the incident. He said one person died on the spot while two others, including the Speaker, were rushed to hospital. The deceased’s body was deposited at the Legend Hospital mortuary in Gwagwalada.
According to a source, the Speaker and his aides were returning to Gwagwalada from Kwali after attending a political meeting when their vehicle collided with a trailer coming from the opposite direction near Sheda village.
The late Speaker was later buried according to Islamic rites in his Ibwa community in Gwagwalada Area Council.
