The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects for alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery linked to a fake recruitment scheme targeting job seekers in the state civil service.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the case was reported on April 28, 2026, following a complaint from the Office of the Head of Civil Service through the Director of Recruitment and Training of the Civil Service Commission. The complaint flagged the circulation and possession of forged recruitment documents.
Detectives tracked and arrested the suspects, identified as Mohammed Bappa, 30, a civil servant attached to the Shira Local Government Secretariat, and Aminu Nuru, 28, a café operator based in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area. Police said intelligence led operatives to search Bappa’s residence in the Kakudi area of Azare town.

During the search, officers recovered 20 Civil Service Commission bio-data forms and five printed copies of suspected forged offer of temporary appointment letters. Authorities believe the documents were prepared to deceive unsuspecting job seekers into paying for non-existent positions.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to identify other possible accomplices and determine the full extent of the operation. Police said they will be charged to court once the investigation is complete.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling fraud and forgery in the state. He urged residents to verify all recruitment information through official government channels to avoid falling victim to scammers.
