The Confederation of African Football has announced its support for Gianni Infantino’s 2027 re-election bid as FIFA president.
CAF made the announcement Thursday ahead of the FIFA Congress in Vancouver. The endorsement gives Infantino backing from Africa’s 54 member associations.
Infantino became FIFA president in 2016 after Sepp Blatter’s departure. FIFA rules limit presidents to three terms. A FIFA ruling determined Infantino’s 2016-2019 period does not count as a full term because he completed Blatter’s mandate. The 2027 election would be his bid for a third full term.

The Confederation of South American Football, CONMEBOL, also endorsed Infantino earlier this month.
Infantino has pointed to financial growth and tournament expansion during his tenure. The FIFA president is elected by the 211 member associations.
