
Former England international and Ipswich Town defender, Ashley Young, has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a remarkable 23-year career across some of Europe’s biggest clubs and stadiums.
Young confirmed that Saturday’s match could serve as his final appearance, describing the moment as the closing chapter of a journey he once only dreamed of as a boy.
Reflecting on his career, the experienced full-back recalled playing at iconic venues including Vicarage Road, Villa Park, Wembley, Old Trafford, the San Siro, Goodison Park, and most recently Portman Road.

He expressed gratitude for his long football journey, noting that while it had been an incredible ride, every story must eventually come to an end.
“But with this dream, there has to be an ending, and Saturday might be the last game of my professional career. 23 years and out,” he said, adding a hint of uncertainty with the phrase “To be continued…”
Clubs he represented over the years also paid tribute to him. Aston Villa praised his contributions, highlighting over 250 appearances and 40 goals, while Everton and other former sides acknowledged his professionalism and impact on the game.
Young’s career has spanned multiple top leagues and included stints at clubs such as Manchester United, Inter Milan, Aston Villa, Everton, and Ipswich Town.
