
A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ben Agir Une, has reportedly died following an alleged assault by members of a community vigilante group in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident occurred at Anibros Settlement, where the corps member, who hails from Tongov in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, was said to have been arrested during a night patrol over suspicion of involvement in a stolen motorcycle.
According to reports, the vigilante group allegedly subjected him to severe beating during the arrest, after which he sustained serious injuries.
He was later taken to a police station, where officers advised that he be rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment. Despite medical attention, he was confirmed dead at the hospital.

The tragic development has sparked reactions from local authorities, with the Chairman of Buruku LGA, Hon. Raymond Aondoakura, strongly condemning the incident.
He described the act as unacceptable and assured that justice would be served, stressing that those responsible would not be protected.
“This unfortunate incident does not represent our people. It is a serious violation, and it will not be tolerated. The law must take its full course,” he stated.
Aondoakura also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the Katsina-Ala community, and the National Youth Service Corps, describing the loss as painful and unfortunate.
He confirmed that security agencies have already arrested suspects linked to the incident and directed that a full investigation be carried out, followed by diligent prosecution.
The chairman further warned vigilante groups against taking laws into their own hands, emphasizing that all suspects must be handed over to proper law enforcement authorities.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and the rule of law in Buruku LGA.
