A 52-year-old man, identified as Alaba Ayeni, has been found dead inside a domestic well in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The Kwara State Fire Service said its personnel recovered Ayeni’s body from the well near Lamp Bearers Islamic School, off Asa-Dam Road, following a distress call received at about 8:42am on Tuesday.
According to the Fire Service, children in the neighbourhood discovered the man inside the well and alerted elders, who subsequently contacted the authorities.

Firefighters carried out a recovery operation and handed the deceased’s body over to the police at Budo-Nuhu Police Station for further investigation.
The circumstances surrounding how Ayeni ended up inside the well have not yet been established.
The Fire Service urged residents to properly cover and secure domestic wells, while advising parents and guardians to keep children away from open wells, drainage channels and other potentially dangerous areas.
