A 22-year-old woman, Blessing Nwachukwu, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over an alleged self-kidnapping scheme in which her family reportedly paid ₦3 million in ransom.
According to the police, Nwachukwu allegedly conspired with a female associate identified as Onyinye and another unidentified man to stage her abduction and obtain money from her family.
The woman was reportedly abducted along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026. Despite the payment of the ransom, she was allegedly not released, prompting the police to launch further investigations.

Police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, later traced her to a room in Asaba, Delta State, where she was reportedly found on September 18.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the alleged kidnapping was staged and that Nwachukwu is assisting investigators with information that could lead to the identification and arrest of her alleged accomplices.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, has ordered further investigation into the case, with anyone found culpable expected to face the law.
