
A tragic incident in Wula, Eastern Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State has led to a police investigation after a 14-year-old girl, identified as Nancy Peter, reportedly died following severe corporal punishment linked to allegations of theft.
According to preliminary findings from the Cross River State Police Command, the teenager was allegedly first disciplined by her mother, Mrs. Agnes Peter (45), before being taken to a local pastor, identified as Pastor Samson Roman Dago (43), where she reportedly received further physical punishment.
Authorities said the girl later became unconscious and was rushed to a medical facility within the community, where she was confirmed dead on arrival.
Police spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, stated that a full investigation has been launched to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the level of involvement of all parties connected to the case.
He also noted that claims circulating on social media alleging sexual assault are, at this stage, unsubstantiated and remain under investigation.

Reacting to the incident, child rights advocate and legal practitioner, James Ibor Esq., of the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI), condemned the act, describing it as a heartbreaking consequence of excessive physical discipline.
He called on authorities to ensure justice is served and for those responsible to be held accountable.
Community members say the incident has left residents in shock, as investigations continue.
Police authorities have assured the public that all necessary medical and forensic procedures are ongoing to determine the full facts of the case.
