Veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji has come under heavy criticism online after leading supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at a solidarity rally in Abuja.
The rally was organised by the Re-elect Tinubu For Inclusive Nigeria movement under the slogan “Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria.” Participants, mostly Nollywood stars, praised the administration’s work on infrastructure and security while calling for stronger action against kidnappings. The event followed a medical outreach that offered free consultations, treatments, and medications to hundreds of low-income residents.
As Deputy Director-General of the movement, Orji addressed journalists at the event and urged Nigerians to back Tinubu’s reform agenda ahead of the 2027 elections. The demonstration took place against a backdrop of growing concern over insecurity, with recent abductions reported in parts of Oyo and Borno states, and continued hardship driven by inflation and high living costs.
Attention quickly shifted online after videos and photos of Orji walking slowly and appearing frail circulated on X. The visuals sparked a wave of reactions, with many users questioning why celebrities were publicly endorsing the government amid economic strain.

One user, @AdenolaOla…, wrote, “Nollywood actors declaring Tinubu is fixing Nigeria while millions eat garri with no sugar and fuel is ₦1,200/litre. Is this fixing or paid PR?” Another, @Dammyse…, called the rally “fake support,” alleging that some entertainers were chasing political relevance instead of addressing inflation and kidnapping.
Some commenters accused celebrities of misleading struggling Nigerians, while others defended their right to support political causes openly. Those defenders argued that political affiliation should not invite personal attacks.
The debate highlights the sharp divisions around Tinubu’s administration. Supporters point to ongoing infrastructure projects, economic reforms, and security interventions as signs of progress. Critics counter that most Nigerians have not felt the benefits due to rising costs and persistent insecurity.
The controversy has also underscored the growing influence of celebrities in Nigeria’s political space, where endorsements often generate as much debate as the policies themselves.
