Malik Tillman sealed the victory in the 82nd minute with a superb free kick that beat goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj, ensuring a comfortable finish for the home side.
The result sends the United States into the Round of 16, where they will face Belgium in a highly anticipated knockout clash. However, Balogun will miss the encounter due to suspension following his red card.
The victory marks another milestone for the United States, who are aiming for their deepest World Cup run in more than two decades while playing on home soil.
