Argentina have accused FIFA of creating an uneven playing field ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Spain, with head coach Lionel Scaloni voicing frustration over the tournament schedule and his team’s preparations.
The reigning world champions believe Spain have benefited from an extra day of recovery after the two finalists reached the title match on different days. While Spain secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over France in the first semi-final, Argentina had to battle past England 2-1 in a demanding encounter played 24 hours later.
Scaloni argued that the scheduling has left his squad at a disadvantage as they prepare for Sunday’s showdown. He also criticised the timing of Argentina’s training session after the team arrived in New York, saying the players were forced to train in difficult afternoon conditions because of official media obligations.

According to the Argentina manager, the session was far from ideal and prevented the team from carrying out a normal tactical workout. He explained that the coaching staff’s main priority is ensuring the players recover in time for the final, with several members of the squad still not fully fit.
Scaloni added that every player will be assessed before a final decision is made on the starting lineup. Despite his concerns, he stressed that Argentina remain focused on delivering their best performance against a talented Spanish side.
The coach also praised Argentina’s supporters, saying their passionate backing throughout the tournament has inspired the defending champions in their quest to retain the World Cup trophy.
Argentina will now hope to overcome the scheduling concerns and produce another memorable display as they face Spain in one of the most anticipated World Cup finals in recent history.
