
Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen motorcycle in Ibadan following a swift response to a distress call.
The arrest, confirmed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stemmed from an incident that occurred around 11:30 a.m. on July 16, 2026, along Adeniji Estate in the Apata area of Ibadan.
According to police reports, the suspect allegedly attacked a commercial motorcyclist, identified as Muhammadu Kamilu, striking him with an iron hammer before making away with his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle.
Acting on credible intelligence provided by a concerned resident, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) were immediately deployed to the scene.
Their rapid intervention led to the arrest of the suspect, identified as Shafiu Nuhu, and the recovery of the stolen motorcycle, along with the weapon used in the attack.

The victim sustained injuries during the assault, while a good Samaritan, Nathaniel Ibrahim, who attempted to intervene, was also injured. Both individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they received medical attention.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly operates as a lone robber, targeting commercial motorcyclists within Ibadan and surrounding areas.
The police disclosed that further investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect’s involvement in other criminal activities.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended residents for their vigilance and timely provision of information, urging the public to remain security-conscious and report suspicious activities promptly.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive and intelligence-driven policing.
