World Athletics has turned down an application by Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili to change her sporting nationality from Nigeria to Turkey, blocking her expected move ahead of future international competitions, including the 2028 Olympic cycle.
The request, submitted by the Turkish Athletics Federation, was reviewed by the World Athletics Nationality Review Panel, which ultimately ruled against the transfer.

According to the decision released on Thursday, the application did not meet the conditions required for approval.
The panel explained that allowing the switch could undermine the regulatory framework that governs athlete nationality changes in international athletics.
It therefore concluded that the transfer would not be granted.
The decision is a setback for Ofili, who had been hoping to compete for Turkey in upcoming global events.
The panel responsible for the ruling included Donna Raynor, Cydonie Mothersille, and Susanne van Waert.
The governing body, World Athletics, maintains strict rules on eligibility transfers to ensure fairness and consistency in international competition.
