The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, in Bauchi metropolis.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, where the two women lived in the same household.
The police said officers at the C-Division Police Station received information about a domestic altercation involving the women at about 4:05pm.
According to preliminary findings, Haruna, who was the second wife, allegedly picked up a pestle during the dispute and struck Adamu, 43, on the forehead.
The victim reportedly collapsed and became unconscious after the alleged attack.
Police detectives were dispatched to the scene and subsequently took Adamu to Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where a doctor later confirmed her death.
Her remains were deposited at the mortuary pending an autopsy.
The police arrested Haruna in connection with the incident and recovered the alleged weapon used in the attack as an exhibit.
The command said the suspect allegedly acted while experiencing hallucinations, adding that further investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The police commissioner also condoled with the family of the deceased and urged residents to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for relatives experiencing mental health challenges.
The command further advised members of the public to report cases of domestic violence to the appropriate authorities promptly.
