Two teenagers have reportedly drowned in a river in Askplaye community, Kaduna State, following days of torrential rainfall that triggered flooding across parts of the Kaduna metropolis.
The victims were identified as 19-year-old Suleiman Yakubu and 17-year-old Abubakar Mohammed.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), North-West Operations Office in Kaduna, confirmed the incident, saying the bodies of the two teenagers had not been recovered as of the time of the report.
According to the agency, the incident occurred amid heavy rainfall that lasted for about four consecutive days, from Thursday through Monday, causing flooding in several communities.
NEMA said its assessment team, led by the Head of Operations, Hajia Halima Suleiman, visited affected areas alongside officials of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) and other relevant stakeholders to assess the impact of the floods.

Some communities were hit by flash floods, with roads submerged and residents temporarily trapped inside their homes. Movement within affected areas was also disrupted as residents struggled to navigate flooded routes.
The agency added that its officials visited the family of one of the victims to offer condolences and support following the tragedy.
NEMA said it would continue working with KADSEMA and other emergency responders to monitor the flood situation and assess the needs of affected communities.
The agency also urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain cautious as heavy rainfall continues to pose risks in parts of the state.
