
Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 22 kidnapped victims after engaging suspected terrorists in Muchiya village, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
The operation took place at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, following reports of terrorist activities in the area.
The troops, from 18 Brigade under Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD, moved into the community and engaged the terrorists in a gun battle.

The attackers reportedly fled during the encounter, abandoning the kidnapped victims who were subsequently rescued by the troops.
One of the victims sustained injuries during the operation and was evacuated to a hospital for treatment.
The troops also recovered three motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists.
The rescued victims were later handed over to the leadership of Muchiya community to facilitate their reunification with their families.
