Suspected bandits have launched a fresh attack on Bakura town in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving residents in fear after a violent raid.
According to eyewitness accounts, the armed assailants stormed the community on Tuesday night, shooting a young man identified as Sufiyanu Anah.
The attackers also rustled an unspecified number of cattle and looted valuables, including mobile phones belonging to several residents.
Among those affected were Umaru Mandi, a ward chairman associated with Governor Dauda Lawal’s political structure, as well as Tukur Sama’ila, popularly known as Tukur O C, and his wife, whose phones were forcefully taken during the invasion.
Residents described the incident as terrifying, noting that the attackers operated freely without immediate resistance, further highlighting the vulnerability of rural communities in the state.

A security analyst, Bakatsine, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, condemned the attack and described it as a stark reminder of the persistent insecurity across northern Nigeria.
“This attack underscores the ongoing challenges faced by rural communities, where lives and property remain under constant threat,” he stated, while wishing the injured victim a speedy recovery.
The latest incident adds to the growing list of attacks in Zamfara State, where bandit groups have continued to target villages—killing, abducting, and looting despite ongoing military operations aimed at restoring peace.
Residents are once again calling for intensified security measures to curb the escalating violence and protect vulnerable communities.
